If you have family members, such as parents or grandparents, who would like to stay with you for an extended time without necessarily becoming permanent residence, they may be eligible to apply for a super visa, or extended temporary resident visa. This is a multiple entry visa that can be renewed every two years, up to a maximum period of ten years.

The biggest advantage of a super visa is that applications are significantly faster, cheaper and more simple to process than permanent residence applications. There is no need for a sponsor, and the visa can usually be issued within two months of applying.

In order to apply for a super visa, you and your family members must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
• You must demonstrate that you have the funds to support the relatives who are applying for super visas
• Your family members must demonstrate ties to their country of origin, such as work commitments, family members, property and pension
• Your family members must obtain medical insurance from a Canadian company for the duration of their stay
