Located in Western Canada, Alberta is one of the most economically vibrant provinces. It has a wealth of natural resources that contribute to its growing economy, and is home to two Calgary and Edmonton, two of Canada’s biggest cities. For those who enjoy spending time in nature, Alberta boasts some of North America’s most beautiful parks, including Banff and Jasper.
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program, or AINP, is a program whereby people with certain skills and experience can obtain an Alberta Provincial Nomination Certificate, which will make the immigration application process faster and more streamlined.
You can apply to the AINP under one of three possible streams:
Alberta Opportunity Stream
This is a new stream that has replaced the previous strategic recruitment and employer-driven schemes. It provides a path to immigration for individuals working in Alberta under valid work permits, and for post-secondary graduates who are employed under post-graduation work permits.
The following basic eligibility criteria apply:
Self-Employed Farmer Stream
As one of Canada’s most prolific farming regions, Alberta is always in need of individuals with a demonstrated ability to develop and manage farming businesses. If you have the financial means to purchase farming land and the farming experience necessary to establish a productive farm, you can apply under this category.
The basic eligibility criteria for the self-employed farmer stream are as follows:
Alberta Express Entry Stream
Individuals who are already in the Government of Canada’s express entry pool may be nominated by the Alberta government to apply for immigration. These individuals receive 600 additional points in the Comprehensive Ranking System and and invitation to apply for permanent residence. The Alberta government looks for candidates who demonstrate strong ties with Alberta, and who are in a position to support the province’s socio-economic growth.
There is no way to directly apply for the Alberta Express Entry stream: candidates are selected from the federal express entry pool.
